Project Engineer / Project Architect - Forensics
About the company:
Join a growing multidisciplinary AEC consultancy working across forensic investigation, building assessment, repair and rehabilitation.
The Chicago office is still at an early stage of its growth. You'll work directly alongside an experienced industry leader while gaining exposure to both the investigative and repair sides of the business. Rather than being limited to one part of a project, you'll have the opportunity to investigate the problem, develop the solution and see the repair through construction.
What you'll be doing:
Conduct field investigations and condition assessments of existing buildings
Investigate water intrusion, material failures and construction defects
Assess façades, roofing, waterproofing and other building enclosure systems
Document existing conditions and help establish the cause of failures
Develop practical repair and rehabilitation strategies
Prepare repair drawings, details and specifications
Produce technical reports and supporting documentation
Support forensic and litigation-related assignments
Coordinate with engineers, contractors, owners and attorneys
Provide construction-phase observation for repair projects
Manage projects and client relationships as your experience develops
What we're looking for:
5+ years of relevant architectural, forensic, restoration or building enclosure experience
Strong understanding of building envelope systems
Experience with façades, roofing, waterproofing or fenestration
Exposure to forensic investigations, construction defects or repair projects
Experience developing repair drawings and technical specifications
Comfortable carrying out field investigations and condition assessments
Strong technical report-writing skills
Ability to communicate directly with clients and project stakeholders
Architectural license preferred or a clear path toward professional registration
