Principal (Electrical Department Leader)

What you’ll be doing:


  • Lead the electrical engineering group in the San Jose office, managing a team of 15 engineers and designers

  • Act as Lead Electrical Engineer or Project Manager on a variety of building projects

  • Mentor, train, and develop staff, including performance reviews and career progression

  • Assign workloads, balance resources, and support the team in meeting project deadlines

  • Partner with senior leadership to maintain engineering standards and quality assurance practices

  • Support recruiting efforts, interviews, and long-term staff retention

  • Develop fee proposals, scopes of work, and project schedules

  • Oversee project financials and coordinate with internal accounting

  • Review and negotiate contracts and terms with support from corporate leadership

  • Run weekly team meetings, track action items, and manage staffing plans

  • Oversee design production, quality reviews, and plan check approvals

  • Coordinate closely with architects, structural engineers, and internal MEP teams

  • Review contractor submittals, respond to RFIs, and perform construction observations

  • Communicate directly with clients through meetings, presentations, and proposal development

  • Prepare calculations, specifications, and technical documentation including due diligence and feasibility reports

  • Stay current with electrical codes, tools, and industry best practices



What we’re looking for:


  • 12+ years of experience with a consulting or design build electrical engineering firm

  • Strong experience designing power, lighting, and low voltage systems

  • Demonstrated project management and people leadership experience

  • Solid understanding of electrical codes, standards, and construction processes

  • Ability to manage budgets, schedules, and client relationships

  • Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, and electrical analysis software

  • Professional Engineer license preferred

  • LEED accreditation is a plus
