There are so many recruitment firms to choose from these days it can be hard narrowing it down! Below are some important factors you should consider before engaging with one:

Are they market specialists?
It is worth asking questions around how long they have worked the market and getting some example clients. A lot of firms tend to be generalist instead of truly focussing in a certain niche area. Partner with ones who are more focussed as they will inevitably have access to more candidates, both passive and active, that do what you do!
What are their recruitment methods?
How will the recruiter go about searching for your new employee? Are they just going to put a job up and send whoever comes through? Talk through what methods they use for candidate attraction and how many people they have in their data base for your city/state. This is also a great way to get a sense of how knowledgeable the recruiter is about the size/scale of the industry and your competitors.
Check out their LinkedIn and website!
It sounds simple but do some surface level research on a recruitment company and see what their presence looks like online. You are trusting this firm to go out into the market and represent your business so make sure the values of their brand align with what you like.
Fees!
It can be tempting to go with the cheapest as who doesn’t love a bargain, but try to get a sense of what that price point gets you. The key argument for using a recruitment firm is to save time during the hiring process and find a higher quality individual. By saving a bit on the fees you might find yourself spending more time evaluating candidates who aren’t right or losing out on someone who would add substantiality more value to your business in the long term. A few extra thousand spent during the recruitment process will 100% pay off in the long term!
Pick someone you like!
You will more than likely need to speak to the recruiter numerous times during the hiring process especially if you are looking to bring on multiple people!
